St. Columba Celtic Male Voice Choir

ActingMusical Director -  Arthur Archer
Assistant M D -         Trevor Stevens
Accompanist -  Margaret Callaway

The Choir takes its name from the ancient town of St. Columb although it is not based there, having members from locations as diverse as Illogan, St Austell and Padstow. Practice nights are held at the Summercourt Village Hall on Thursday nights from 7.30 to 9.30pm.

It was formed by the late Ivan Kessell in 1970 and there are still founder members with the choir. Previous Musical Directors were:-
1981 - 1985 Mrs. Philippa Wallis
1986 – 1996 the late Mr. Clifford Strongman
1996 – 2002 Mr. Derek Rule
Our current MD is Mr. Tony Tournoff who took charge in February 02. Unfortunately Tony had to leave his position with the choir on August 15, 2010, Arthur Archer is now  acting MD.
Carrie Mills was the accompanist from 1970 until March 2000 when she resigned after nearly 30 years service.
She has been succeeded by Lilah Bassett and Pam Finlay and, most recently, Margaret Callaway.

· The choir has forged links with many other choirs in the country, for example, Ynys y Bwll, Dorchester, Forest of Dean and many others.
It has especially strong links with the Bedfordshire Police Choir. It has participated in the four festivals of Cornish Male Voice Choirs at the Royal Albert Hall. ·
It has made a tour of Ireland where it sang with the Wexford MVC.·
It took part in one of the gala concerts associated with the 1009 Cornish International music festival.
Though only relatively small in numbers, it has recently been successful in recruiting a few new members. Under the leadership of Tony Tournoff it has improved immensely.
