Steve will be the first to admit he’s not a Cornishman but is proud to have been born a Wiltshireman, originally from Salisbury, and therefore qualifies at least as West Country. He first came to the County in 1966 and has lived here ever since. In 1970, he married Judy and has lived in the same place in Perranporth ever since, Having lived there for more of his life than anywhere else, he cannot imagine moving away form the community he is so involved with. Amongst his other interests, he is Chairman of the local amateur dramatic group, the Perranporth Players, a steward of the local Methodist Church, a member of the committee of the Conservative Club and actively involved in the local village hall committee where, as chair of the building sub-committee he is overseeing a major project to refurbish the building. His particular loves are travel to Italy and France (he speaks both languages sufficiently to get by) and wine. Hobbies include gardening, DIY, badminton and golf. He is a Chartered Civil Engineer and retired in February 2005 from a 43 year career in Local Government.. He started singing in the school choir and, after his voice broke, he sang in the local Congregaitonal church choir in Poole, Dorset where he grew up. On his many visits to Mevagissey, he often sang in the local choir and was always impressed with the quality of the local voices and the extempore singing which used to take place in the evening around the harbour. He first joined St Newlyna choir and, after that folded, joined St Columba and loves the singing and the fellowship, especially in the pubs after concerts!
