Tony Tournoff Musical Director
Tony was born in Hampshire and was trained as an organist and choirmaster by George Goodwin FRCO. When he was 15 he accepted his first appointment as organist and choirmaster to St Augustine’s Church in Aldershot. He gained his A.Mus.L.C.M diploma at the age of 16. After his National Service he went to King Alfred’s College, Winchester, where he gained his Teaching Certificate from Southampton University. Whilst he was at Winchester he joined the Cathedral Choir as an Alto Lay Clerk and received further organ tuition from Alwyn Surplice who was the Organist and Master of Choristers. In 1987 he was awarded an Honorary Diploma from the London College of Music for his services to music. During a successful teaching career in Hampshire and Surrey, where he also acted in an advisory capacity for music, he conducted many choirs. He was one of the founder members of two choral societies in the area as well as being their Conductor and Director of Music. In 1987 he moved to Cornwall to take up the post as Head of Music in Camelford. He became the Director of Music for Wadebridge Male Voice Choir in October that year, a position he held until 2001. In 1992 he took early retirement from the school and now concentrates on composing and arranging for choirs. He enjoys working on a computer and has his own recording equipment, which enables him to use some of the many skills he acquired whilst he was teaching.
We are delighted that, in addition to his many other commitments including being the MD for Wadebridge Choral Society, Tony agreed to become our MD in February 2001 and look forward to enhancing our repertoire and developing our singing ability.
